1950's Ranch Style House Renovation
How could a small addition add value to your 1950’s Ranch Style House? Additions to a home are usually require a much larger budget than remodeling within the house footprint. But if you could add on an entire master suite… wouldn’t that add tremendously to your homes value?

Would a 1950’s Ranch House Renovation Guide be helpful? Read on:

Plus… just think how nice a master suite would be? A quiet space where you can shut off the rest of the house, and just take a deep, relaxed sigh and enjoy the peace.

Of course, any time you mention the word suite… it must include a luxurious bath. At least, a bathroom that has double sinks, a separate tub and shower… and don’t forget the walk-in closet.

I found this little guide by accident. It’s actually an online book – (you can download it to your computer right now!) that was provided to the residents of West Des Moines, IA. The book includes lots of pictures and tips for remodeling ideas on many different styles of homes.

But… it includes a section just for ranch style houses. It’s not a ton of information, but it shows some very cool ideas for bump outs, entry closets and home additions. How about an idea for a gourmet kitchen?

The guide includes floor plans and diagrams… and it’s free. I don’t know how long they will leave the link to it on their webpage… so check it out now:

Although your post is nearly 3 years old, my husband and I are just about to begin construction for an addition on our 1954 Cape Cod home that will give us a new living room, relocated dining room and new master bedroom/bathroom suite upstairs. Your link to the West Des Moines Pattern Book (1950s Ranch House Renovation Guide) gave us ideas for the design of our new master bath and master closet, which was our biggest hurdle. Loved the Pattern Book. Thanks!

I have the opportunity to one day own my parent’s 60-70 yr old ranch house. They made a few changes, but, I want to completely remodel it from outside to inside. There are beautiful hardwood floors inside covered up under carpeting. The kitchen is small, I’d like to see that open up, change the bedroom layout, and there is a family room that I would like to see become bigger and circular, with Insulation put in. Any ideas?
